Rain Cloud
(Willemina surrounded by clouds)
Narrator: Willemina the raindrop lives in a cloud. One day Willemina's cloud became bigger, and bigger, and bigger.
As the cloud grew Willemina got ready for her trip to earth.
As Willemina got ready for her trip she thought of her friend Barney.
Willemina: I wonder if I will see my good friend Barney the dinosaur. It's been eons since I've last seen him. I have been around since the beginning of time I have friends from every era, but I really miss playing with Barney and all the dinosaurs. Whoa here I go!!!
(Willemina gets her umbrella, as it starts to rain. She begins to sing "I'm Singing In The Rain".)
Mountains
Narrator: The first stop is the mighty gros morne mountains.
Willemina: Brr!!!! I'm turning to snow. I'll have to make my way down the mountain.
Narrator: As Willemina skied down the mountain the sun's rays melted the snow and Willemina trickled into the forest.
On the way she met lots of friends. Birds, squirrels, fish and moose. Animals rely on water as a food source
and for some animals a home. The two biggest threats to Canadian wildlife are the loss of habitats ,
like Wetlands (no wetlands, no water!), and environmental contamination.
Forest
Narrator: As Willemina landed at the bottom of the mountain she met Martin the Moose.
Willemina: Hello Martin
Martin: Hello Willemina. Back again?
Willemina: You know me. Always traveling.
Willemina: Where are you going now?
Martin: I'm grazing for grass. It's my favorite food. Right now I'm off to the Waterford river for a
drink. Nothing like a glass of clean water to wash down a lunch of grass.
Willemina: Good job Martin. Water is very good for you. Good-bye!
Martin: Good-bye Willemina!
Willemina: On I go. Oh look it's Francine the flower! She looks sick! What's wrong Francine?
Francine: Oh Willemina I'm so thirsty I can't stand up straight.
Willemina: Here Francine I can help you (takes out a bottle of water)
Francine: Oh Willemina I can't drink that water because I don't have any arms!
Willemina: Hmm! I know (takes out watering can and pours it on Francine).
Francine: Oh thank you Willemina!
Willemina: Your welcome Francine, good-bye.
Narrator: As Willemina continued her journey she entered the groundwater.
Groundwater
Narrator: Groundwater is an important source of drinking water. Over 8 million Canadians depend on
groundwater supply for their drinking water in wells. As Willemina entered the groundwater and realized
she'd have to hold on tight, because water moves fast.
(Willemina gets pulled out of the water)
Jack and Jill went up the hill
To get something to drink
Along with the water, Willy came up
But fell back down with a clink.
Willemina Wow! This is really fast I'm getting tired.
Wetlands
Narrator: After Willemina's stressful journey in the groundwater rapids she finds herself in the wetlands.
The wetlands are also known as swamps, marshes, or bogs. They provide a breeding ground for animals that
are unable to survive anywhere else in the world. Holly the Heron and all her daughters live in the wetland
when they are not educating girl guides about water conservation. Some people feel that wetlands are a nuisance
and that they are simply a breeding ground for mosquitoes, but they're wrong. We are losing valuable wetlands
everyday. Some wetlands are being drained for industry, housing, and valuable farmland. The wetlands have also
become very polluted due to industry and farmers pesticides.
Willemina: The wetlands spa! I could stay here forever. This is my favorite stop on the journey so far.
Narrator: While at the spa Willemina met many animal friends. The Wetland is home to the raccoon, otter,
beaver, and many insects. Willemina met the wetland spa owner Ricky Raccoon.
Ricky: Hey Willemina. What are you here for today?
Willemina: Hey Ricky my feet are so tired after my long journey.
Ricky: Well Willemina you've come to the right place, the wetlands spa! (Begins to massage feet).
Willemina: Oh thanks Ricky, but I don't have time to stay! I'm off to visit a small town.
Small Town
Narrator: As Willemina leaves the wetlands she enters the small town. Willemina's taken a little detour to this
small town. Willemina's friends had told her that in small town there's a waste water treatment plant.
Chances are they will have stories to tell when they head back to the river. The one's who get drawn into
small town wastewater supply will probably have to wash someone's body, become part of a glass of water, be
flushed down a toilet, or just trickle wastefully down the drain to the sewer and have to be treated anyway.
Wait a minute......... where's Willemina? Did Willemina not make it to small town? I could have sworn
I saw her leave the wetlands.
(Willemina stomps in)
Narrator: Willemina where have you been?
Willemina: (Angry, stomps in) Don't start! When I left the wetlands I was admiring how great my feet felt
after I left the wetlands spa. I wasn't really paying attention to what was happening, when all of a sudden
I went down the drain! I went to the waste water treatment plant.....imagine that calling me waste water!
When I got there (people walk out with sponges and clean Willemina) they cleaned me with really strong chemicals
like chlorine. You can probably smell it off me now. I used to be so clean and pure, and now tarnished!
Narrator: Oh Willemina I'm so sorry. But that happens to water everyday. Every time we let the water run,
clean water and dirty water get mixed together to be treated even if they're not dirty.
Willemina: It's almost like a whole class getting detention for one person's bad deed.
Narrator: Almost Willemina, almost. Well I know something that will make you feel better. I hear you're off
to a national park!
Willemina: Yeah!
National Park
Narrator: National parks have been set aside by the government, free from industries, business and civilization.
As Girl guides we have often visited national parks and rely on them as a safe and clean environment for our camps.
These parks need to be protected for the campers of tomorrow. (campers in the tent)
Willemina: I love national parks, people from all over the world come and treat me with respect, and I'm able to
swim with my friends.
Narrator: Water in parks is said to be very clean. Even Willemina would say they're not as clean as they used to
be with airborne pollutants from industries and cars. This is why you can never drink the water from a stream, even
though it may look clean and clear.
Willemina: Oh my time has come, no more parks for me, I'm off to the big city.
Big Town
Narrator: Willemina's next stop is to big town. They suffer from drought because they did not appreciate the
water when they had it. They wasted the water and let the water reservoir run dry. Now the rain doesn't satisfy
all those who need water. Willemina is very important to these people. Droughts cause many farmers to lose huge
percentages of their farms. It's been a long time since Willemina last came to big town. (Car drives through the town)
Many things have changed, and Willemina isn't welcome in the mean streets of big town.
Willemina: Wow these rain drops coming up don't look like me, they look mean.
Acid Rain #1: Yo Yo Willy.
Willemina: Who are you?
Acid Rain #2: We're the acid rain gang.
Acid Rain Gang:
The acid rain gang is our name
Corruption and pollution is our game.
We come in the form of rain, snow, n' dust
We go around town and make things rust.
Willemina: Oh no! Acid rain. How can I fight them off, I'm only a raindrop. Unless I had my friends the
water witches.
(Water Witch 1 and Water Witch 2 come to help Willemina)(They take out their water guns to spray the gang)
Acid Rain Gang: We're melting!!
Willemina: Thanks City of St. John's Water Witches, I couldn't have done it without you.
Water Witch 1: This all could have been prevented.
Water Witch 2: you could have painted the yellow or blue fish next to storm drains.
(Shows girl guides painting the fish on the ground)
Narrator: Willemina then heads up the river to another part of the city. In the rest of the city there is a Big Pond with a drinking water treatment plant. The drinking water treatment plant treats clean water and makes it safe for city residents to use, Willemina doesn't want to end up being a part of a glass of water so she opts for a cleansing bath before heading off to Paradise. (Gets a shower with shower brush and big beach towel)
Lower Town, By the Sea
Narrator: Well Willemina's journey's over, well¼.almost. In Paradise there are lots of fun things to do that
don't hurt the environment and lead to acid rain gangs. Like biking, hiking, and bird and animal sanctuaries.
(someone biking, someone hiking, someone looking at the butterfly).
Willemina's journey finished in the River in Paradise and so again, Willemina will evaporate in to the clouds and
begin her journey again. (Clouds return again in front of Willemina), so that our children and grandchildren may
have "water for tomorrow and water for the future".
